How to Play North Carolina Pick 4
North Carolina Pick 4 is one of the most popular games offered by the North Carolina Lottery. The game is simple in that you only need to select four numbers ranging from 0 to 9, but you can construct your play slip in over a dozen ways.
Picking the Numbers
To start with, you need to pick four numbers from 0 to 9. You can pick the numbers on your own or use the Quick Pick feature to select the numbers for you. Each play slip can contain up to five sets of numbers.
After your numbers are selected, you must choose the type of play:
- Exact: The draw must exact match your numbers in the exact order as picked.
- Any order: The draw must exact match all four numbers, but the order they are drawn doesn’t matter.
- 50/50: This play is a combination of Exact and Any Order, meaning you’ll win either way. If the numbers are matched in exact order, you’ll win both prizes.
- Combo: This play generates an Exact play for all possible combinations of your four numbers.
- Pairs: The draw must match your first two or last two numbers in exact order.
- 1-OFF: You win if you miss one or more numbers on your ticket by one number (for instance, you picked 4, and the drawn number was 3 or 5).
- Sum + It + Up: With this play, there is an additional way to win if you match the total sum of drawn numbers.
Buying Tickets
You can decide whether you want to pay 50¢ or $1 for one play. However, keep in mind that you can only purchase 50/50 (Exact + Any) plays for $1. Also, your match type determines the cost of Combo play tickets. For example, a 12-way Combo on a 50¢ play will cost a total of $6 ($12 at $1 play).
Since Carolina Pick 4 draws take place twice a day, you can choose to participate in day draw, evening draw, or both, with one ticket being issued per draw. The selected plays will be for the next scheduled drawing unless you purchase to play in the form of Multidraw (up to seven consecutive day/evening draws) or Advanced Play (a specific set of future draws).
You can nullify your lottery tickets within 15 minutes of the purchase at the terminal or retailer at which they were issued.
North Carolina Pick 4 Drawing Schedule
The North Carolina Pick 4 draws happen twice a day — once during the daytime at approximately 3 PM and once in the evening at approximately 11:22 PM. You can watch the draws on TV or on-demand by visiting the WRAL.com site.
North Carolina Pick 4 Payout and Odds of Winning
North Carolina Pick 4 offers a wide variety of ways to construct your ticket. Each play and its variant comes with specified payouts and odds of winning.
